Hereke produces the highest quality of this detailed 'palace 'style of carpet in Turkey. This lotus flower withTree of Life design was a traditional centuries old design revered by the Sultans. About 60 km east of Istanbul lis the Turkish town of Hereke, probably the best known centre for the production of both wool and silk carpets. Hereke carpets with their sophisticated colour palette, intricate patterns and faultless workmanship have the reputation for being some of the finest workshop style carpets in the world.These carpets were originallyand exclusively  produced for the Sultans of the Ottoman empire. Hereke carpet workshops were first estabilished by Sultan Abdul Mecid in 1891 to weave carpets of the highest quality for the palace only. Hereke has always made very fine carpets of woolwith cotton foundations, though it also famous for the  finest and most expensive quality of pure silk carpets. 

The price of silk carpets is always determined by the quality of the silk and the number of knots per sq cm . The higher the number of knots the higher the price . The standard knot count for a Hereke Silk carpet is 10 knots x 10 kınots per sq cm
