These beautiful carpets was made for a young village girls marriage dowry in the Turkish village of Taspınar (Stone Spring)They have been woven on the same loom one after the other and are what we call a 'cift' or pair which is reputated to be one each for he bride and groom
To find a fully connected pair that has not been seperated in this age group is very rare and the price reflects this. 
Taspinar is considered among the important weaving centers of Cappadocia. Here in the homes, carpets are hand knotted with high quality, careful medium quality knotting and clear natural colours. Typical for Taspinar carpets are bold almost oval medllions with either a floral or geometrical double prayer medallions. The varied inner patterns are often with earring or 'amulet' motifs in the corners, which reflect the weavers earlier nomadic origins The colous are dominated by warm red and indigo blue tones.Young women are now attending high school and university so the tradition of carpet making has slowly stopped in the last 10-15 yrs making old Taspinar carpets increasingly valuable.
