The Kazak Carpet Districit of the Transcaucasus is administratively a part of the Elizavetpol province, with a population made up primarly of Azeri and a large Armenian minority. Weaving of both richly coloured knotted pile rugs and bold flatweaves appear to have deep roots in Kazak tradition with documented usage dating to the early 13 thC. There are 16 different design formats from within Kazak weaving villages, forming the subgruops of Fachralo, Lori Pambak,Karachov,Bordjalou, and the very famous Star and Swastika Kazaks.Kazak pile rugs are similar to those of the Karabagh District in structure, though squarer in format, and using a more lustrous coarser wool and generally higher thicker pile. All Kazaks have predominately bold, clear and well drawn rectlinear designs, with colour contrasts of red, blues, whites, and greens.

During the early 1990's a lot of these carpets could be found for sale in Turkey, however antique and unusual classics Kazak rugs are proving a rare find for collectors and dealers alike.
