The Turkish town of Fethiye is located on the Mediterranean Sea with the Toros mountainsbehind.Many nomadic groupd and families lived in and around these mountains and wove distinctive kilims as part of a yourng woman;s marriage dowry.From Fethiye comes large empty centred kilims, large multi diamond design kilims, as well as small size squarish 'Sofra' - a nomadic woven eating blanket (used as a tablecloth under the central eating tray or 'tepsi'and occasionally small format kilims like this one . The old kilims, are woven in a fabulous red with pink, blue, yellow, brown,a little greenand very occassionally aubergine.Kilims are no longer woven in this area making each vintage piece unique
