Konya kilims, originating from the Konya region of Turkey, have a rich history deeply intertwined with the culture, economy and nomadic traditions of Central Anatolia. Konya has been an important centre of textile production since ancient times. Here, kilim weaving is not simply a craft or trade, but an art passed down from generation to generation, primarily by women and often woven as an important part of a young woman's marriage dowry. Like a mirror, a kilim reflects the life of the woman who wove it and the culture of the community to which she belonged. Its motifs often symbolically embody the power or qualities of the objects they represent
Konya as a group includes a large and varied number of carpet, kilim and cicim weavings, weavings from the various villages that surround this famous city. Each has their own individual colors, sizes and designs, which accounts for the larger number of pieces attributed to 'Konya '
Excellent quality wools, dyes and historically important design composition are the hallmark of many Konya Kilims making many of them very collectible on todays market.
