The Luri tribes spread from the Iran-Iraq border and typically residiein southwestern Persia between the Persian Gulf and the Zagros Mouuntains. The Lurs are one of the few ethnic groups who have lived in their native land of Iran for at least three thousand years making them, along with the Kurds, one of the original Iranian people.
With the exception of the Bahtiyari tribes (interrelated to the Lurs), they have kept a relatively low profile, making their weavings less easy to come by. They pursued a traditional lifestyle as nomads, migrating annually and their weavings stand alone in their designs,
As in all nomadic tribes, decorative as well as practical pieces must be produced for the bridal dowry, and these include the finest and most impressive kilims, camel bags, and storage bags. The designs tend to be fine and uncluttered, with simple borders, distinctly rich muted colours, lustrous wools, and motifs symbolic of their archaic nomadic lifestyle.Luris seldom weave for the more commercial market and as a result, there is no 'new' weavings available for sale today. All our store items are handmade
.Our vintage pieces are all preloved and due to the age and/or handmade nature of these items, minor signs of patination, fading, wear, or slightly unsymmetrical lines may be present. These are not considered flaws, they are part of their unique nature and why we love using them in our homes as they add both character and charm.
