Manastır kilims are very different to other Anatolian flatweavs as they were woven by Balkan expatriates who settled in Mihaliccik, in far north western  Turkey. The region is particularly well known for its finely handspun wool prayer kilims, which have a floating prayer niche on a yellow or black ground with a red or pink surround. The field of these kilims is sparsely decorated with star motifs, and the skirts are the only areas which have further adornment. Another compositional design features a serrated diamond shape which is repeated over the whole field of the kilim.
 
These kilims are generally brightly coloured with reds, pinks blues, yellow,green and black, and are of a splitweave on thin cotton or very fine wool warps, producing fine quality weaving.Very little weaving is produced in the modern day making the old and antique kilims highly sought after by both collectors and dealers alike .
