The Turkish town of Çorum is situated on an ancient Anatolian trade route, This town was at one time extremely famous for spinning and weaving.
Although weaving is no longer practised in neighbouring districts, the Çorum region produces some very long narrow runners, on which some designs are similar to eastern Anatolian and Kurdish patterns such as the comb (or its mirror-image hour glass) motif. Colours are usually reds, blues, green, yellow, brown and black. Bright greens however are an easy distinquishing feature of these kilims. This region also produces some long kilims woven in two halves, which feature a compartment format made of narrow oblongs of different colours. Çorum kilims are generally found in a larger size format but occassionally can be seen in the more typical 'seccade' format .They have a good reputation for a fine and lustrious spun wool and tight slit weave technique.
All our store items are handmade. Our vintage pieces are all preloved and due to the age and/or handmade nature of these items, minor signs of patination, fading, wear, or slightly unsymmetrical lines may be present. These are not considered flaws, they are part of their unique nature and why we love using them in our homes as they add both character and charm.
