'The Mother Earth Goddess' Kilim

Kilims of the Afyon region in western Turkey are generally distinguished by finger-like protrusions that extend outwards from the geometric shapes employed in the designs. The name of this characteristic motif is parmakli which comes from the Turkish word parmak, or finger, so the design can be translated as “with fingers”. Parmakli, however, also suggests parmaklik, or fence, so perhaps, they may symbolize the high mountain ranges rising like barriers on the borders of the region.

This multiple niched Mother earth goddess design in this kilim is both striking and rare

All our store items are handmade. Our vintage pieces are all preloved and due to the age and/or handmade nature of these items, minor signs of patination, fading, wear, or slightly unsymmetrical lines may be present. These are not considered flaws, they are part of their unique nature and why we love using them in our homes as they add both character and charm.

What People Say -

Fabulous Collection

One of the most fascinating, entertaining and educational carpet experiences I've ever had.Ruth has a fabulous collection of rugs and kilims and it's clear that she loves them all. She knows the story behind each one and enthusiastically shares the background about the weaver and the meaning of the work.

Ruth is very welcoming and there was never any pressure to buy.

I did take home a couple of lovely pieces and I will definitely return.  I highly recommend her shop !
