Adana is a busy industrial and agricultural centre on the Sotheastern coast of Turkey that has to its back the extensive Toros mountains. raditionally designed handmade kilims, cicms, yastiks (pillowcases) and cuval (grainsacks) were woven by settled Nomadic peoples in the villages of the Adana and surrounding Toros mountain region as an ıntegral part of a young womans' marriage dowry. The symbols used on all kilims can be bold and often naieve but they have special meanings and can reflect the weavers desire for protection, abundance, happiness, fertility, etc.Adana produces large quantities of cotton, which is often used in their kilims, for the colour contrast in both border and field designs where reds, pink, orange, purple and blue fading to grey are common. Those Adana Yoruk (nomadic) kilims and cicims found on the market place are usually small in format taking 2-3 months to make with a medium weave and more vibrant colour on a natural camel or white cotton background. .Adana kilims and cicims are always excellent value for money
