  •  Malatya is an eastern Turkish town  encircled by the high peaks of the eastern Taurus Mountains, and has a high Kurdish population. This has been a prolific weaving area for many years.Considering the number of large and small kilims, yastiks (cushion covers), and cuval's (grain sacks) woven in this region there is a suprising similarity of design, making Malatya kilims distinctive and easily recognizable. All weavings have fine lustrous wool and typically use a colour palette of rich red, dark navy blue, brown and some green to contrast with undyed natural wool or white cotton. Cicim brocading is often used to highlight motifs symbolic of earlier nomadic lifestyles and in general antıque Malatya kilims are extremely sophisticated in their use of colour and design harmony.

What People Say -

Fabulous Collection

One of the most fascinating, entertaining and educational carpet experiences I've ever had.Ruth has a fabulous collection of rugs and kilims and it's clear that she loves them all. She knows the story behind each one and enthusiastically shares the background about the weaver and the meaning of the work.

Ruth is very welcoming and there was never any pressure to buy.

I did take home a couple of lovely pieces and I will definitely return.  I highly recommend her shop !
