Kashan was one of the famous rug weaving oasis cities of Safavid Persia - now Iran, and particularly well known for it's production of very fine wool on cotton foundation, and also more rarely, silk carpets.Production of carpets from Kashan were at their height during the 18th and 19th centuries. These famous carpets use the most curvlinear and dense patterining of all carpets, often with a single medallion in the center and Persian floral motifs, including arabesques,flower-stems, palmettos, rosettes, blossom and leaf motifs. Kashan designs are always elegant, fluid and highly accomplished and the weaving ıtself very sophisticated. The wool is usually extremely fine and soft ,the knotting tight, and the pile dense.

Many of todays Keshan carpets reflect the beauty of the older /antique carpets

What People Say -

Fabulous Collection

One of the most fascinating, entertaining and educational carpet experiences I've ever had.Ruth has a fabulous collection of rugs and kilims and it's clear that she loves them all. She knows the story behind each one and enthusiastically shares the background about the weaver and the meaning of the work.

Ruth is very welcoming and there was never any pressure to buy.

I did take home a couple of lovely pieces and I will definitely return.  I highly recommend her shop !
