This is just an absolute show stopper The colors and balance of design and quality all make it very special. Its also from Elaziğ Prison in eastern Turkey which as far as I know not many people or dealers were aware that they even wove carpets and I have never personally had another in stock.
It's rare and that also shows in the low number of 204. Despite the clarity and dynamic of the quality colours it sits surprisingly harmoniously on the floor without jarring notes.
This rug has a premium wool pile and is symmetrically hand knotted using an intricate Hereke' Yildiz' Palace design. It comes in mint condition for a collector or enthusiast and is a one of a kind rug to cherish.
The most well known of theopen prison projects were those from Sivas and Isparta where from the early 1940's onwards unique carpet weaving projects were set up in the main mens prison primarily as a way to fund the actual prison itself as well as to provide a small income to the prisoners. These projects ceased by the late 1970's but due to the unique nature of the project and the fact that it was men weaving these rugs ( In Turkey it is only women who weave rugs ) are always very collectable on todays' markets.
