One the great classical designs that features prominently in 19th century Caucasian weaving is the so called ‘Fachralo’ design. It is found in coarser and longer pile Kazak rugs from the southern Caucasus and incorporates a very specific central medallion motif (a diamond superimposed on a square). There is often a minimal quality with an absence of the myriad of smaller ‘infill’ motifs accompanying many other Caucasian rugs. The best of Kazaks are characterised by their immediacy - bold motifs and vibrant colour, lending an almost barbaric quality to their presence. The palette here comprises beautiful pale blues and mottled greens, highly favoured amongst Caucasian rug enthusiasts.

What People Say -

Fabulous Collection

One of the most fascinating, entertaining and educational carpet experiences I've ever had.Ruth has a fabulous collection of rugs and kilims and it's clear that she loves them all. She knows the story behind each one and enthusiastically shares the background about the weaver and the meaning of the work.

Ruth is very welcoming and there was never any pressure to buy.

I did take home a couple of lovely pieces and I will definitely return.  I highly recommend her shop !
